As a Death Doula it is my role to support and empower the dying person and the circle of support through the process. For purposes of this video, I’m calling the dying person the dying and people that love them the living, although we’re all dying all the time just so we’re clear. I often see that the circle of support, the living, say to the dying, “It’s okay, you can let go.” But in reality the dying person HAS to let go. There is no bargaining with death when time comes. It could be really useful for the living to hear, “It’s okay you can let go of the dying.” Because sometimes that is what is prolonging it. We refuse to let go and we hold on so tight. Whereas the letting-go of somebody that you love is the hardest thing to do while you are still living.
Has this been your experience?
Thank you so much for giving me a minute of your life to think about the end of it. 💜⏳✨
