What’s your favorite smell? What sound totally moves you? Is there a touch you love the feeling of? What’s your favorite taste? And aside for my spectacular visage, what site do you love to behold? What experiences of the senses are your absolute jam?
I sometimes undertake this exercise with my advanced disease clients because flooding the body with the hormones that are released when taking in sensory information that we find pleasurable has the capacity to increase joy and to decrease anxiety. The body is the means through which we experience the outside world and the senses are the means to which we bring information in and to me that’s part of the real joy of being human is to be able to feel and to perceive and probably going to be one of the really wack parts about being dead, like for real.
So for now, I’m going to go to sniff those flowers and call my niece so I can hear her giggle. Thank you so much for giving me a minute of your life to think about the end of it.
