THE AWAKENING WORKSHOP

What do you most value in life? What will remain when everything is stripped away?

Join Alua Arthur and the Going with Grace team for The Awakening Workshop - an evocative and immersive experience designed for you to contemplate your body's inevitable death.

In our time together, we will create a safe environment for you to explore your deepest attachments and significance.

Using a story meditation, Alua Arthur will guide you through a terminal diagnosis, through all you must surrender along the path to the deathbed, and restore you safely. We will consider the dynamics of relationship, reconciliation, forgiveness, and presence, evoking compromised areas in your life.  While some of the dialogue may evoke difficult feelings, it will ultimately assist in clearing the path to renewed engagement in life and practical preparation for the eventuality of your death.

Content presented in the Awakening Workshop is based on deep and (some consider) intense stories compiled from our experience while being in the presence of those who are dying.  We do not share these stories and concerns to evoke fear but rather, the awareness of the fragility of life.

Who is the Awakening Workshop NOT for?

The Awakening Workshop is not intended as a substitute for traditional grief counseling or psychotherapy. Will this workshop be recorded?

No. This workshop is a live experience and will not be recorded.

I've already attended The Awakening Workshop online—is the In-Person workshop the same? Is it worth taking either version of the workshop again?

The Awakening Workshop is designed to be an immersive exploration. While the content remains largely the same between the online and in-person versions, every session births an experience as unique as each individual who attends. Our explorations of death are ever evolving, and our reflections, conversations, and experiences in the workshops reflect just that. (You could come to this workshop 1,000 times and receive something new each time! Our definition of fun!)

Here's what past participants are saying about the workshop...

“A profound and illuminating experience. In one evening I became viscerally aware of what I value in life when everything superficial is stripped away. In turn, I immediately found a deeper appreciation for the present than ever before. You’ll never love life more than after a workshop about death!”

“Awakening was a powerful journey into what I truly hold dear to my heart as I consider my life to be ending. As I was guided through the workshop with love and compassion, what started as an intellectual exercise morphed into a deep examination of what my death holds for me and my loved ones. Far from being sad or depressing it was enriching and empowering as I considered how I want my death, and really my life, to look. Take this workshop. If not for yourself, then for everyone that you love and loves you!”

“What an incredible 3 hours! To be able to consciously look at living through the lens of my own death was so powerful. Alua lead a beautiful workshop that perfectly combined internal reflection, small group discussion, and larger group participation that allowed me to feel safe, seen by others, and look at how I truly want to prioritize my life today to fully live. I felt an immediate connection with my small group through our mutual commitment to being vulnerable and that we all decided to show up for ourselves.”

“I’m not being dramatic when I say this workshop is life-changing. When it opens for enrollment again, I will shout from the rooftops to everyone I know and love that they should attend. It was intense and messy during the process, but left me feeling unbelievably calm.”

“If you are thinking about creating a relationship with death, this is the intro workshop for it.”

“Everyone should go through this kind of exercise and not only once but repeat it at least every decade as priorities and relationships change.”

“Alua truly guides us through a process to contemplate our own death and thus allows us to examine our priorities while we live, it’s a gift.”

“This workshop really cuts through the false reality that death-denial creates and invites us to live our lives more meaningfully, more deeply, more creatively for embracing this awareness of our own mortality.”

“I knew this workshop would attract interesting, death-interested people, and I wasn’t disappointed. People were fearless about their sharing and fascinating! I also knew it would be deep and creative and have double-heart allure of Alua!”

“This workshop exceeded all of my expectations! It was such an incredible way to talk about life through the lens of death and Alua facilitated it in a way that allowed for lightness in a heavy topic.”

“The breakout rooms were really special. I felt like I went through a life-changing experience with three strangers. Amazing how you can develop such an appreciation with a few people over zoom in such a short time.”

“I will cherish this experience until I die. Thank you so much for such a beautiful experience!”
